Wantok Warriors Code of Conduct
We are a club built on family, community and respect. This code is how we look after each other, on and off the field.
Everyone
- Treat everyone with respect, kindness and fairness, whatever their age, gender, culture, background, ability or level of play.
- No bullying, harassment, abuse, discrimination or put-downs. This includes online and on social media.
- Respect our PNG culture, and the cultures and communities of everyone who joins us.
- Look after the grounds, equipment and facilities we use, and leave them clean and safe.
- No drugs, and no alcohol or smoking at junior training or games.
Players
- Come to training and games on time, ready to try your best. Let your coach know if you cannot make it.
- Listen to your coaches and team managers, and respect referees and officials. Their decisions are final on the day.
- Play fair, be a good sport and shake hands.
- Look after your teammates and your opponents. Tell a coach, trainer or parent if someone is hurt or upset.
- Wear the protective gear your coach asks for.
- If you have a knock to the head, tell a coach or trainer straight away. Do not play or train again until a doctor says it is safe.
Parents, guardians and supporters
- Cheer for the players in a positive way. Praise effort, not just winning.
- Do not yell at or abuse players, coaches, referees or other supporters.
- Let the coaches coach and the referees referee. Take any concerns to the team manager or committee afterwards, not on the sideline.
- Junior players need a responsible adult with them at training and games.
- Ask before sharing photos or video of other people's children.
Coaches, managers and volunteers
- Hold a current Blue Card if you coach or volunteer with children.
- Be a positive role model and put player safety and wellbeing first.
- Avoid being alone with a child, and do not message children privately. Speak to their parents instead.
- Keep players' personal and medical information private.
- Never push an injured player to play, and follow concussion guidelines.
Raising a concern
If something does not feel right, speak up. Talk to a coach, team manager or committee member, or message us on Facebook at @WantokWarriorsRL. We will take it seriously and handle it with care.
If the code is not followed
We would always rather talk first. If the code is broken, the committee may give a warning, ask someone to step away for a time or, in serious cases, remove someone from the club. Matters involving the safety of children, or the law, may be reported to the proper authorities.
By ticking the box on the sign-up form, you agree to follow this code.
